Angelina Jolie Takes North Korea to Task
Better watch your back, Kim Jong Il. Angelina Jolie will totally kick your ass. Oh, and your huge ’80s sunglasses look effing ridiculous, BTW. Just saying.
Jolie was in Seoul, South Korea, today to promote her latest action thriller, Salt, which opens with a scene that takes place in a North Korean prison.
That’s not her only connection with the Korean Peninsula, of course. The actress and humanitarian is deeply worried about the people of North Korea.
The persecution defectors face when repatriated to the rogue state appalled Jolie, a goodwill ambassador for the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.
Seoul-based officials from the U.N. refugee agency brought the star up to date on the current state of affairs there, and she was naturally appalled.
GOODWILL AMBASSADOR: Angelina Jolie is Salt. And awesome.
“They spoke a lot about the concerns about people being persecuted when they are sent back,” she said. “I’m very concerned about the people.”
Tens of thousands of people from impoverished North Korea have migrated to neighboring China in recent years, activists say, but it’s very risky.
Many are sent back due to an agreement between North Korea and China. Some 19,000 have made it to South Korea, where they are protected.
“I learned today about them gaining citizenship and crossing into South Korea,” Angelina Jolie, who was also promoting her movie, told reporters.
“The UNHCR practices quiet diplomacy in which they do more than they talk about.”
As always, kudos to Angelina for using her high-profile status to bring attention to issues and people who truly need it. She sets a great example.
Tabloid Pays Brangelina Undisclosed Settlement For Bogus Rumors; Money Donated to Charity
Brangelina is awesome. We’ve said it before and will say it again.
While Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt have been making the rounds - her Salt premiere, Comic-Con - their attorneys have fought the good fight against false rumors.
No shortage of those to be found regarding the couple, either.
This morning, they accepted an undisclosed settlement (earmarked for charity, of course) from the UK’s News of the World for “false and intrusive allegations.”
You mean the weekly deluge of Brangelina gossip isn’t all true?!? We’re stunned. Five-plus years after Angelina stole Brad, it’s hard to take any story seriously.
Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie have another reason to smile.
The duo called in the legal dogs after a story in January claimed the pair had met with a Los Angeles divorce lawyer to quietly divide their assets, hash out a custody deal and financially provide for their six children in a “messy separation.”
Not the case. And the tabloid paid a heavy price.
While the newspaper removed from the offending celebrity gossip article, it refused to acknowledge that the printed information was untrue until now.
“When the News of the World failed to publicly retract the allegations and apologize for them - thereby leaving their readers in the dark as to the true position - the couple felt they had no alternative than to sue,” their attorney, Keith Schilling, said.
In other news, Ange is gonna help Jen adopt! Like, OMG! Congrats!

Yes, we realize the publication cites a new tell-all book about the celebrities and some supposedly new revelations as its reason for dredging this back up again.
What would a new tell-all possibly have to offer, though, and how would we assume any part of it is actually true? Is there no other celebrity gossip out there?
Come on, Us. Jen’s dating a new guy now, and he’s still married to his ex-wife! Surely there’s an adultery / love child story you can fabricate from that, right?
Brangelina on the Red Carpet: Salt Premiere Pics
Although she’s busy helping Jennifer Anison adopt a child, Angelina Jolie found time yesterday to attend the Hollywood premiere of her latest movie, Salt.
The incredibly awesome actress showed up on the red carpet of the Grauman’s Chinese Theatre alongside life partner Brad Pitt. She signed autographs for fans looked generally thrilled to be there:

In Salt, Jolie plays an American spy whose government turns on her. Think Jason Bourne, but with breasts. The action movie opens on Friday. Will you go see it?
Brangelina Will Get Married (Once the Kids Ask)!
Marriage is not happening for Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt.
They’ve made this abundantly clear with their comments and inaction over the years … but there’s one thing that could change their minds. Well, six things.
“I think it would be hard to say no to the kids,” Angelina said this morning on Good Morning America in an excerpt of an interview airing tonight on Nightline.
Not that we should hold our breath, as it ’s not a huge priority for them, either. “They’re not asking,” Jolie says. “They are very aware that nothing’s missing.”
Marriage or not, Jolie, who stars in the new spy thriller Salt, touches on other aspects of her family in the interview, including whether it will get any larger.
Sounds like Brangelina is torn about the issue.
OK! totally made this story up … but it could actually happen someday!
“We always have this thing, first thing in the morning, where we’re really, really tired, and we look at each other and we wonder, Are we ever going to get sleep?” the Salt actress says. “And yet we still love the idea of having more children.”
Offering a glimpse into their daily routine, Jolie says she’s better at disciplining girls, while Pitt is better at disciplining the boys. “I think girls and Daddy can just bat their eyes,” she says. “And the boys, funnily enough, can kind of get me.”
Asked if she and Brad will grow old together, Angelina doesn’t hesitate: “Of course … We wouldn’t have six children if we weren’t absolutely sure of that.”
She also describes the pandemonium of ordinary events such as breakfast: “We’re like bartenders. We’re like waiters,” she says of herself and her partner.
“But we still, I think, are able to do it because we manage to have a great laugh. We do it together, and we find fun in it, and because of that, it doesn’t matter if you don’t get enough sleep. It’s an honor to take care of them.”

Parade got the Salt star to open up about many of the above topics in a lengthy interview for its new issue. Below are some excerpts from her Q&A …
On whether Brangelina’s kids keep them together: “The children tie us together, but a relationship won’t hold if it’s only about kids. You must be really interested in each other and have a really wonderful, exciting time together. We do.”
On how her family completes her: “Brad knows me completely, exactly as I am, every part of me. He loves me. The children love me. They know all my flaws and all my oddities. And they accept them. And so I can feel complete.”
Angelina Jolie is one cool chick.
On her rebellious past: “I used to cut myself or jump out of airplanes, trying to find something new to push up against because sometimes everything else felt too easy. I was searching for something deeper, something more. I tried everything.”
On celebrity gossip coverage: “We do everything we can to keep our kids away from it. We travel to places where the kids aren’t aware of that kind of thing. We try to give them a full life where they don’t have to come face to face with that world.”
On being happy at home: “There’s never a period when Brad and I are pulled apart. We are not separated for more than three days, ever. We stay really connected. We actually don’t go out much. It’s funny. We’re very homebound.”
On her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died in 2007: “Mother never put herself first, ever. At the end, she said her greatest success was being a mother. She said she had missed nothing in life except getting to know her grandchildren.”

Between her great humanitarian work and bogus celebrity gossip items dominating headlines, it’s been awhile since we’ve seen Angelina Jolie, you know, in a movie.
While an increasingly rare sight, the glitz and glamour of the red carpet sure suit the actress well, as she proved when she stepped out to promote her newest film.

In Mexico with her four eldest kids to promote the summer action movie, she looked as fabulous as ever, leaving us hoping this is just the beginning.
She recently told Vanity Fair that she doesn’t plan on acting much longer so that she can focus on family. An admirable sentiment, but we’d miss her!

Angelina Jolie Considers Kids, Marriage, Movies and More
Perhaps sick of concocted cover stories in which she played no role - did you hear Brangelina is over?!? And Brad and Jen are sneaking around?!? - Angelina Jolie sits down with the latest issue of Vanity Fair and opens up about a number of life issues.
Among them: the possibility of more children; an eventual marriage to Brad Pitt; and whether there will be a Mr. & Mrs. Smith sequel. Excerpts are below…
Will she have more kids? “We’re not opposed to it. But we want to make sure we can give everybody special time. They’re kids now, and can play together, but they’re going to need a lot more talking in the middle of the night, like I did with my mom for hours. We want to make sure we don’t build a family so big that we don’t have absolutely enough time to raise them each really well.”
Will she and Pitt ever get married? “it’s just like we already are. Children are clearly a commitment, a bigger commitment [than marriage]. It’s for life.”
Will she quit acting? “I’m very, very grateful, it’s a fun job. It’s a luxury… But I don’t think I’ll do it much longer. Because I have a happy home… I got back from work last night, and everybody was playing music and dancing and I suddenly found myself dancing around with a bunch of little fun crazy people.”
Will she and Pitt ever co-star in another movie? “I’d love to. We’ve talked about it. We’d have to figure out who’s going to watch the kids, but it’s really about finding the right thing, because we’ve looked. When you’re a couple, there are certain things people don’t want to see you do. It becomes too indulgent, too personal.
“I don’t think people want to see people who are really together intimate on-screen. Maybe we have to play bad guys that try to kill each other, so it’s just fun and aggressive, not dealing with some man-woman deal.”
This issue goes on sale nationwide on July 6. In the meantime, let’s talk more about how awesome Angelina Jolie is!
Third-Rate Tabloids Declare End of Brangelina
Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt are so done. Come on, it could not be more obvious. After the 12th consecutive fight to end all fights, what more is there to say?
Even the big-name celebrity gossip tabloids took a rare break from bashing Brangelina this week, but not New Weekly and Famous, which apparently exist.
The two biggest stars in Hollywood split up - and shockingly, no one noticed until NW broke the news! What a scoop! Same with that police blowout. Wow.
There’s apparently no limit to the number of times police are called to their home, and Ange moves out, or Brad is sneaking around with Jennifer Aniston.
Who cares if we’ve heard it 20 times before, or there’s never any evidence to support these outrageous claims, they keep selling magazines (somehow).
Guess Angelina Jolie being awesome isn’t as salacious of a story …

Angelina Jolie is Even More Awesome
She’s the target of such salacious gossip from tabloids - just last week, we reported on how Brad Pitt is supposedly sneaking around behind her back - but when it comes to the facts, there are few celebrities as upstanding as Angelina Jolie.
She lives a private, family-oriented life, donating millions of dollars and countless hours of time to charity every year. This is a woman who’s visited Haiti, opened a school for refugees in Afghanistan, toured war-torn Bosnia, and so on.
Her latest project?
As the UN Goodwill Ambassador (below), this week she visited women who fled conflict in Colombia to start a new life on the other side of the Ecuadorian border.
So much of what we report on is either scandalous or depressing. Once in awhile, it’s refreshing to report on a celebrity who does so many good things.
We just wish there were more like her …
