Ben Roethlisberger Accused of Sexual Assault Again
Pittsburgh Steelers quarterback Ben Roethlisberger is being accused of sexual assault by a Georgia woman - the second to make such claims about him.
The alleged incident occurred early this morning at Capital City, a club in Milledgeville, Georgia. The alleged victim was treated at a hospital and released.
In addition to the alleged victim, witnesses are being interviewed, and one law enforcement source says they will attempt to interview Ben Roethlisberger.
The Milledgeville Police Department are looking into it and the Georgia Bureau of Investigations is also investigating the two-time Super Bowl winner.
Roethlisberger is being sued by a Reno, Nev., woman, Andrea McNulty, who claims the QB sexually assaulted her in 2008. She came forward last July.
SACKED: Big Ben is in hot water again over sexual assault allegations.
Ben fervently denied assaulting McNulty, and apparently this woman too.
Roethlisberger has already been interviewed by police, according to an update received just moments ago, but no charges have been filed against him yet.
The star’s reps are denying that the football star sexually assaulted the woman last night, although said denials are short on details as of this moment.
According to ProFootballTalk.com, a source close to the star said only “that the allegations were untrue and the events in question did not happen.”
Again, no charges have been filed. A rep from the Steelers says: “We are gathering information on this incident - until then we have no further comment.”
Story developing …
Naomi Campbell Attacks Limo Driver, Flees Cops
It was only a matter of time. Naomi Campbell may be in trouble with the law again after Manhattan police say she allegedly attacked a limo driver on Tuesday.
According to NBC New York, the temperamental model became enraged with her chaffeur and - from the back seat - slapped and punched him as he drove.
Campbell allegedly struck him with her cell phone, he told authorities.
Some people will just never learn.
It gets better from there. The driver eventually stopped the car on the Upper East Side to call 911; that’s when Naomi Campbell jumped out of the car and ran!
Cops are presently “looking to speak to her,” the report says.
Tuesday evening, Campbell’s rep said: “There shouldn’t be a rush to judgment. Naomi will cooperate voluntarily. There is more to the story than meets the eye.”
Unfortunately for Nae, rushes to judgment have a way of happening when you have a long ass rap sheet for outbursts (or associate with peeps like Chris Brown).
In 2008 she pled guilty to attacking two police officera at London’s Heathrow Airport; a year earlier, she got community service for throwing a phone at a maid.
In 2005, an assistant accused her of slapping her and beating her with a Blackberry. In 2000, she pled guilty to a 1998 case involving an old assistant of hers.
Campbell assaulted her with a phone and threatened to throw her out of a car too. Someone needs to have her phone privileges taken away, it sounds like.
Sarah Trigger May Have Tried to Kill Jon Cryer
For years, we thought the only thing wrong with Two and a Half Men were the incredibly immature and unfunny quotes uttered on the sitcom each week.
Little did we know about the scandals plaguing its stars behind the scenes. While Charlie Sheen’s struggle with alcohol, drugs and domestic abuse have been well-documented, they almost pale in comparison to the troubles facing Jon Cryer.
In May 2009, the actor’s ex-wife, Sarah Trigger, was arrested on charges of felony child neglect. Reports indicated she had choked her and Cryer’s eight-year old son.
Now, according to documents in the custody battle between the couple (obtained by TMZ), Trigger asked ex-boyfriend Eddie Sanchez to murder Cryer and her first estranged husband, David Dickey.
“Mr. Sanchez… said that it was [Sarah Trigger] who had contacted him on numerous occasions, stating that she wanted to see the pair [Cryer and Dickey] dead, and even asking Mr. Sanchez if he would kill the pair,” the documents read.
The FBI launched an investigation into this matter last month, but would not comment on anything beyond that.
Vicki Greene, Trigger’s lawyer, defended her client to TMZ:
“Sarah has not threatened anyone, especially Jon and those are statements that are refuted and she has evidence to show that Mr. Sanchez has already recanted those statements to her.”
We’ll follow up on this story and post those statements if they surface. For now, the situation is even scarier than the fact that so many people tune in to Two and a Half Men each week.
** UPDATE: TMZ now reports that a voicemail, allegedly left by Sanchez, was left on Trigger’s mother’s phone on January 22 and it stated that Sarah never asked him to kill anyone.
Stefani Talbott Claims Affair with Matthew Fox
Lost star Matthew Fox is being accused of an affair with Stefani Talbott. He is married. She is a stripper. Who does this dude think he is, Josh Duhamel?
While the intel is sketchy, the National Enquirer and In Touch are both on this alleged scandal, and the former knows a thing or two about mistresses.
Rielle Hunter, Rachel Uchitel and Nicole Forrester come to mind.
In any case, the 25-year-old claims she slept with the actor twice last year, having met him in July while working at the Stars Cabaret in Bend, Oregon.
“These accusations are false,” Fox’s rep said, and they very well may be. But Stefani Talbott is coming forward with her story about their alleged run-in.
“I was dancing onstage, and I made eye contact with him immediately. I got so excited,” she said, having recognized Matthew from the hit ABC series.
Stefani Talbott says she had sex with with Matthew Fox. Twice!
Matthew, Stefani says, started by buying her a drink, then paid for four private dances, each worth $20. “He asked, ‘Why are you working in a place like this?’”
“I told him that I am a single mom and needed the money. He absolutely did not mention a wife or family, and I don’t remember him wearing a wedding ring.”
“He didn’t tell me to keep it a secret or anything. He didn’t even use protection. He didn’t seem concerned at all,” Stefani Talbott confesses to In Touch Weekly.
Despite club rules about dating customers, Stefani says she left her 5-year-old son with a sitter and met Fox at a house he was staying in with his entourage.
“We sat around and talked all about his show. He complimented me and was saying how down-to-earth I am. Pretty soon, things heated up,” she recalls.
Eh, who cares, as long as he didn’t give away any Lost spoilers during pillow talk. It would be much more alarming if those got out than sordid sex details.
Tony Kornheiser Suspended by ESPN for Criticizing Hannah Storm
This is just silly.
Tony Kornheiser, a former Washington Post columnist and ESPN radio show host, has been suspended by the network for criticizing the wardrobe of SportsCenter anchor Hannah Storm.
Last week, Kornheiser opened his show by critiquing the clothing Storm donned while she hosted a morning edition of SportsCenter. His exact words:
Hannah Storm in a horrifying, horrifying outfit today. She’s got on red go-go boots and a catholic school plaid skirt. Way too short for somebody in her 40s or maybe early 50s by now. And she’s got on her typically very, very tight shirt. So she looks like she’s got sausage casing wrapping around her upper body… I know she’s very good, and I’m not supposed to be critical of ESPN people..But, Hannah Storm, come on now!
Kornheiser later called Storm to apologize and also publicly apologized for the comments. He told his listeners today:
“I apologize, unequivocally. I’m a sarcastic, subversive guy… I’m a troll, look at me. I have no right to insult what anybody looks like or what anybody wears. That, I think, should go without saying.”
ESPN has suspended the host for two weeks. We get it, you can’t exactly call out a co-worker in the fashion with which he referenced Storm. (THG note: Free Britney once called my cut-off T-shirt “cheap” and was forced to fetch my coffee for a month.)
But Kornheiser makes ESPN gobs of money by co-hosting Pardon the Interruption. His biting, sardonic attitude is a major appeal for fans that watch the show.
Moreover, by suspending Kornheiser, the network has actually made national news of a story that few would have noticed if no punishment had been handed down. Ironic.
Jayson Williams Sentenced to Minimum of 18 Months in Prison
Jayson Williams is going to prison.
The former NBA star was sentenced to five years in jail today for the 2002 crime of fatally shooting a hired limousine driver. He will be eligible for parole in 18 months.
Last month, Williams pleaded guilty to aggravated assault in the death of Costas Christofi on February 14, 2002. He was convicted on four counts of covering up the shooting in a 2004 trial.
A clearly disturbed, dangerous person, Williams drove drunk - and into oncoming traffic - earlier this year. He averaged 13.6 rebounds per game as a member of the New Jersey Nets in 1997-98.
In court today, State Superior Court Judge Edward Coleman went along with a plea agreement that spelled out the five-year prison sentence and the potential for Williams to be released as early as summer 2011.
Choking away tears, Williams spoke out in court and apologized to Andrea Adams, Christofi’s sister. He said:
“There’s not a day I wake up that I don’t feel sorry for what I did to Mr. Christofi and that I put you through this.”
He’ll have a long time in prison to consider those actions and, hopefully, turn his life around.
Rielle Hunter-John Edwards Coverage May Win National Enquirer a Pulitzer
After its relentless reporting blew the lid off the John Edwards-Rielle Hunter cheating scandal, the National Enquirer is in the running for a Pulitzer Prize.
Does it deserve to be nominated - or even win it?
Laugh if you want, but the Enquirer’s coverage of Edwards’ double life is being considered for investigative reporting and national news reporting awards.
The story of his affair and love child with Rielle Hunter were ignored, dismissed, and ignored again until finally being vindicated by mainstream media.
The significance of the story, the New York Times notes, is the fact that Democratic Party came dangerously close to nominating this man for the presidency.
This would have been a disgrace of unparalleled proportions.
Yet only in the National Enquirer was the truth about John Edwards’ recklessness, and the grim reality behind his doting-husband facade, exposed.
The National Enquirer did us a favor exposing this loser.
The mainstream media’s hesitation to run the story might be defended as the high ground, a means to a less sex-obsessed culture, which is somewhat noble.
But the celebrity gossip machine will grind on regardless.
If Americans aren’t reading about Edwards and Rielle Hunter, they’ll just read about Tiger Woods and Rachel Uchitel (also broken by the Enquirer, natch).
Better the former than the latter, right? Woods’ apology made clear that we may be interested, but it’s his business and he will talk only when he wants.
Tiger may have opened himself up to incredible scrutiny and criticism with his inappropriate actions, but to a certain point it’s his problem to deal with.
Not so with John Edwards. Athletes and talk show hosts don’t work for us, but politicians’ dalliances tend to interfere with, and often corrupt, their jobs.
Not all affairs produce corruption, and we don’t have to know every sin committed. But with Edwards, imagine if we found out only after it was too late?
We’re just saying.
Jacqueline Beems Arrested for Assault on Ric Flair
Throughout his professional wrestling career, Ric Flair had a saying: To be the man, you’ve got to beat the man.
His wife of three months apparently took those words literally: Jacqueline Beems was arrested last night for allegedly assaulting the former WCW and WWE great.
Several media outlets say the police were called to the couple’s Charlotte residence last night, just prior to midnight. The official police report states Fair suffered minor injuries and refused treatment at the scene.
No weapons were used in the alleged attack and Beems was released from jail earlier this afternoon.
The wrestler - who often refers to himself as a “limousine ridin’, jet flying, kiss stealin’, wheelin’ dealin’, son of a gun” - has been married four times.
Scotty Lago Leaves Vancouver Olympics After Racy Photo Controversy
Snowboarder Scotty Lago bolted the Winter Olympics after a racy photo surfaced of him inviting girls to kiss his bronze medal. While it hung around his waist.
The third-place finisher in the men’s halfpipe snowboarding event voluntarily left after the risque photos of a woman kissing and biting his … medal surfaced.
The 22-year-old free spirit was snapped with his bronze medal around his waist and the hardware hung over his groin area on a public street late Thursday.
Pretty rad display all around. A second shot showed a woman biting the medal, but this time Scotty Lago held it up by the logo on his Team USA T-shirt.
Hey, a dude’s gotta celebrate.
KISS OFF: Snowboarder Scotty Lago is in hot water with the U.S. Olympic Committee and Snowboard Association after inviting the ladies to kiss deez bronze medalz.
In response to the controversy, Lago apologized to the U.S. Olympic Committee and the U.S. Ski and Snowboard Association, which required its athletes to attend a special program prior to the games to avoid potential PR nightmares.
That was time well spent! Association President and CEO Bill Marolt said:
“Scotty Lago is a great athlete, but with that talent comes a responsibility of proper conduct, and his involvement in this situation is not acceptable.”
“With that said, Scotty realizes that his conduct was inappropriate. He has formally apologized and also made a decision to leave Vancouver today.”
Reports say his “voluntary” departure was prompted by an ultimatum from the U.S. Olympic Committee: say you’re sorry and go or we kick you out.
No further action against the Seabrook, N.H. native appears likely. In other Olympics news, how about those Lindsey Vonn photos?! Hot damn!
Floyd Landis Accused of Hacking Into Lab to Change Failed Drug Test Results
A national arrest warrant has been issued in France against U.S. cyclist Floyd Landis in connection with a hacking operation in which he allegedly attempted to change the results of a failed drug test. That’s not one you hear every day!
Landis has been linked to a case involving stolen computer data from an anti-drug laboratory. French judge Thomas Cassuto is seeking to question Landis about his alleged connection to a hacking operation that targeted the lab.
That sounds like the most poorly-hatched plot since John Edwards’ idea to gank a diaper from his love child and bribe a doctor to fake a paternity test.
Nice try, Floyd Landis. But we have to give you credit for trying to cheat the system to cover up your previous cheating of the system. Go big or go home, right?
Pierre Bordry, the president of the French anti-doping agency, accused Floyd Landis of having a link to the computer hackers. Cassuto also issued a national warrant for Arnie Baker, a longtime Floyd Landis coach and adviser.
“Landis used the hacked files for his defense,” said Bordry, referring to Landis’ infamous appeal before an anti-doping arbitration hearing in California.
“He wanted to show the lab made mistakes in handling the tests.”
Landis was stripped of his 2006 Tour de France victory after testing positive for high levels of testosterone. His appeal of the decision was rejected.
